Have you watched Cobra Kai? It’s sillier, but seeing Daniel La Russo (now of La Russo Automotive!) and John Lawrence as middle-aged adults working out how their respective adolescent years have shaped them is really entertaining and touching. The fact that actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka came up with this idea, wrote the script, cast themselves and as many of the original actors as they could, and then put it on YouTube (before it was later picked up by Netflix) makes it even better. In my opinion, it’s a worthy addition to The Karate Kid’s legacy.
That scene where Miyagi gets drunk and you learn his back story and Danny takes care of him... gets me every time. Have always loved this movie. Might need to watch it again.

We started watching it but had to go back to rewatch the original first, which prompted this essay!
I've always found this movie to be very moving. Your essay captures why, so well.
